***Temporary/Part-Time Position - Up to 20 hours per week. ***

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: 

Responsibilities include

  • Uplift the mission and goals of Aventura Math Camp in all interactions and activities
  • Engagement in training activities; facilitation of some activities
  • Preparing for, leading, and co-leading classroom activities
  • Guiding Aventura Math Camp Scholars and Aventura Math Camp Interns in preparing for and co-leading or leading classroom activities
  • Communication with and guidance of camp visitors

The AMC STEM Teachers must be available full-time during the following periods:

June 17 - 18, 9 am - 5 pm, Leadership planning and staff training preparation

June 23 - 27: Camp staff training and final camp preparation

                Hours: 9 am to 5 pm Mon - Thursday June 23 - 26

                Hours: 9 am to 7 pm Friday, June 27 (evening gathering for campers’ families)

July 7 - 31: Aventura Math Camp, 8 am to 4 pm Monday - Thursday (Fridays off)

Aug 1: Break-down/ pack-up/ assessment, 9 am to 5 pm

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

Required Qualifications

  • At least 3 years teaching experience in a public K12 school, community college or university
  • Proficiency with standard computer applications
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage college students
  • Ability to manage middle school students
  • Comfort with mathematical ideas corresponding to California K12 standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with 6th - 12th-grade students
  • Working knowledge of the Spanish language
  • Academic or teaching background in science or mathematics
  • Experience with inquiry-based science or mathematics learning

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. The person holding this position is considered a ‘Campus Security Authority (CSA)’ to report crimes for the federally mandated Clery Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1107 revised March 24, 2017 as a condition of employment.

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.

Hiring Salary:  Up to $35.00 per hour
