Accounting Technician II


Performs diversified duties using initiative and judgment in analyzing information and determines a course of action within the specifications of standard practice and established guidelines. Reviews data for accuracy and completeness through the accounts payable cycle. Resolves discrepancies or incompleteness of financial documentation supporting payments; involving communication with vendors, campus members, and students and/or funding sources before further processing and, if necessary, makes correcting entries. Provides and explains university, government, or funding agency policies and procedures to campus customers within the position's assigned area of responsibility. Processes travel expense claims, check requests, petty cash reimbursements, POs, payroll check requests and adjustments, and electronic payments to vendors. Prepares checks to be mailed or distributed for on campus pick-up. Runs query reports as needed for researching vendor balances. Provides prompt and courteous customer service for both internal and external customers. Collaborates with other team members to review procedures and revise forms as needed. Responsibilities may require accessing confidential information within the Universities financial system. Performs other duties as assigned.


Equivalent of three years of progressive financial record-keeping experience, and/or any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the required knowledge and abilities. Must have working knowledge of governmental (preferably CSU) financial record-keeping methods, procedures and practices, arithmetic, and general office procedures. Ability to review financial documents for accuracy, completeness, validity, and adherence to standards. Compute and post figures rapidly and accurately; identifying and correcting errors. Interpret and apply written rules and regulations and use computer applications to support accounting functions. Requires use of PeopleSoft, Excel, and Word and have both ability and desire to learn new computer applications to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of work assignments. Must be skilled in using a 10-key calculator. Must have the ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods of time using a compute r/monitor, ability to bend, stoop, twist and may lift to 10lbs.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.  Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.

This position is eligible to participate in a hybrid telecommute program.  Approval should come from the department administrator and reviewed every six months, as the business needs may change at any given time.

Hiring Salary:  $3,512 - $3,750 per month
