RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Moves heavy objects such as furniture, equipment, materials, and supplies; assists in campus event set-ups. Loads and unloads furniture, equipment, supplies, and materials. Cleans assigned areas, including such activities as removing construction debris, cleaning gutters, culverts, and other drainage structures; power wash assigned areas; clean roadsides, streets, and related areas; clean applicable equipment, and assist in other cleaning projects. Removes and hauls waste and recyclables from areas of central aggregation, special events, and special clean-up sites. Assists crafts and construction workers by performing unskilled tasks such as preparing work areas, performing rough repair work; tearing down structures; patching pavement, and performing pick and shovel work. Assists in grounds maintenance to include such activities as pruning, trimming and spraying trees and shrubbery; removes undergrowth and debris, and using spade, hoe, or rake to prepare or clean assigned areas. Operates and performs basic preventive maintenance on appropriate hand and powered equipment and tools, supplies, and materials. Submits daily cards. May operate vehicles and equipment such as forklift, dump truck, electric pallet jack, electric stacker, electric cart, riding mower, and box truck with electric lift gate. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures; maintains a safe and clean work environment. Work may involve exposure to hazardous materials.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
Ability to read and write at a level appropriate for the duties of the position and follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety. Must possess interpersonal skills in order to interact and communicate effectively with all management, staff, and co-workers. Ability to successfully complete the Defensive Driver Training Program; must have the ability to provide proof of eligibility to lawfully operate a motor vehicle in the state of California; must be able to accommodate a work schedule that might vary according to operational needs which may include day and weekend hours. This position requires full range of motion, and a variety of movements necessary to perform regular strenuous manual labor including but not limited to lifting and moving moderate sized equipment in excess of 50 pounds; bending climbing, reaching, and applying force; work may involve exposure to hazardous materials.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
Hiring Range: $3,500 - $3,800 per month
