***Temporary/Part-Time Position - Up to 20 hours per week. ***

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Provides day-to-day Camp Lead oversight of the Aventura Math Camp in all interactions and activities.  Engagement in training activities; facilitation of some activities; oversight of Aventura Math Camp Scholars and Aventura Math Camp Interns during any non-classroom activities; oversight of safety and monitoring of students; communication with students and (if necessary) discipline of students for inappropriate behavior; communication with families in cases of excessive tardiness, absences or inappropriate behavior; communication with external entities regarding round-trip transportation of students to CSU Channel Islands; communication with and guidance of camp visitors; teaching or co-teaching during sessions (this is optional for Camp Lead).

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

Required qualifications include at least 3 years teaching experience in a public K12 school, community college or university; proficiency with standard computer applications; excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to manage college students; ability to establish and carry out protocols for middle school students; comfort with mathematical ideas corresponding to California K12 standards. 

Preferred qualifications include experience working with 6th - 12th-grade students; working knowledge of the Spanish language; academic or teaching background in science or mathematics; experience with inquiry-based science or mathematics learning. Ability to uplift the mission and goals of Aventura Math Camp.

The Camp Lead must be available full-time during the following periods:

June 16-18, 9am-5pm, Leadership planning and staff training preparation

June 23-27: Camp staff training and final camp preparation (9am-5pm Mon-Thurs; 9am-7pm Friday evening gathering for campers’ families)

July 7-31: Aventura Math Camp, 8am to 4pm Mon-Thurs (Fridays off)

Aug 1: Break-down/ pack-up/ assessment, 9am-5pm

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.

The person holding this position is considered a ‘Campus Security Authority (CSA)’ to report crimes for the federally mandated Clery Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1107 revised March 24, 2017 as a condition of employment.

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.

Hiring Salary: Up to $37.00 per hour
