MUSIC - The Music Department, College of Liberal Arts, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo is seeking applications for a pool of part-time lecturers with positions available as determined by need and funding during the Fall, Winter, and/or Spring Quarters for the 2025-2026 academic year, beginning September 11, 2025. Classes to be taught may include one-unit to two-unit activity classes in guitar, voice, and piano; large and small vocal and instrumental ensembles; private instruction in all orchestral and band instruments, piano, and voice; and lecture classes in music theory, music appreciation, music technology, and music history (all of its genres).
Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
Lecturer A: $5,507-$6,677
Lecturer B: $6,221-$13,224
Lecturer C: $6,825-$14,523
Lecturer D: $8,593-$15,221

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates for activity courses and private instruction must have completed a Bachelor's Degree in Music or must have earned a bachelor's degree outside of music and have extensive professional performing experience in music. Candidates for lecture classes must have at least a Master's Degree in Music.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to those with relevant work experience (particularly university teaching) and those who bring professional capabilities.
