Facilities Project Supervisor


Prioritizes, coordinates, and implements work projects in a lead capacity for HRE including coordination for the daily duties of operational task work of maintenance and trades workers, and other FS staff assigning daily work orders and scheduling repair, preventative maintenance, and refresh projects (i.e. facility painting, replacement of flooring and furniture, etc.). Maintains preventative maintenance records and identifies equipment and subsystems in need of maintenance repair and/or replacement to ensure the facility is operational at all times and maintained in excellent condition. Provides work and safety instructions including on-the-job training to skilled and semi-skilled trade workers; provides input on performance evaluations of trade workers; monitors work in progress, inspects completed work for accuracy, sound trade practice and code/regulation compliance; develops and maintains manual and/or computerized records in maintenance management systems. Coordinates operational activities to minimize impact to residents and apprises HRE staff and residents of facility activities. Interprets plans and specifications, coordinates work schedules and assignments to meet overall maintenance and repair objectives including renovation projects; sequencing of work and ensuring the availability of required materials and equipment; prepares cost and time estimates; orders supplies and monitors workflow. Ensures campus partners are aware of HRE operational activities. Reviews attendance and labor records for accuracy. May involve exposure to hazardous materials such as paint thinners, lead and asbestos on some projects. Work may involve exposure to hazardous materials.


Knowledge: Must possess a thorough knowledge of effective supervisory practices, techniques, and have a working knowledge of operational job design and work sequencing related to building repair and renovation.  Must possess thorough knowledge of the safe and effective methods, materials, tools and equipment used in multiple trades; knowledge of the applicable state codes and regulations, including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety of the State of California; must also possess a working knowledge of effective supervisory practices and techniques. 

Abilities: Must possess journey level skills in one or more of the building construction trades; ability to erect and work from scaffolds, rigging and ladders, select appropriate materials and equipment for the job at hand; interpret, read and work from blueprints, plans and specifications; ability to make rough sketches, estimate time and materials costs; maintain and retrieve data using computerized and/or manual record keeping systems; prepare standard reports; provide instruction to skilled and semi-skilled workers; analyze and respond to emergency situations; read and write at a level appropriate to the position and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position. Must be able to plan, direct, lead, instruct and coordinate the work of multiple small groups or crews of skilled and semi-skilled workers. Punctuality and regular attendance is essential for this position. Must interpret a wide variety of written rules and regulations; must possess interpersonal skills in order to interact and communicate with the public, management, staff, and co-workers; ability to successfully complete the Defensive Driver Training Program; must have the ability to provide proof of eligibility to lawfully operate a motor vehicle in the state of California; ability to drive carts, autos, or pick-up trucks in the course of their daily work. Ability to successfully complete the Defensive Driver Training Program; possess a valid California driver’s license in good standing for the operation of any vehicle or equipment, providing proof of eligibility to lawfully operate a motor vehicle in the state of California upon request; ability to drive carts, autos, or pick-up trucks in the course of their daily work. Must be able to accommodate a work schedule that varies according to operational needs which may occasionally include evening and weekend hours. This position requires full range motion and a variety of movements necessary to perform strenuous manual labor, including but not limited to lifting and moving moderate sized equipment up to 50 lbs, bending, climbing, reaching, and applying force; work may involve exposure to hazardous materials.

Experience: Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates two or more years of experience as a journey level trades worker and including at least one year in a lead or supervisory capacity. Must have demonstrated achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to those acquired through the completion of an applicable apprenticeship program. Will be required to obtain worker certifications for hazardous materials, i.e. Asbestos and Lead Worker.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.  Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position. The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.

This position is a “designated position” in the California State University’s Conflict of Interest Code.  The incumbent is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.

This incumbent will make, participate, or influence discretion purchases and will be required to submit annual Form 700 Disclosure.

Hiring Range:  $6,667 - $7,333 per month
