Operating Systems Analyst - Career


Serves as a key member of the ITS Infrastructure Team, providing Linux administration support for new and ongoing development projects. Responsible for configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting physical and virtual servers; and ongoing configuration and maintenance of monitoring systems (Solarwinds, Nagios, etc.), patching and configuration systems (using Ansible or automation experience), and web servers (using Apache). Responsible for change control, disaster recovery/business continuity, security, and inventory control of the Data Center. Physically inspects the Data Center to ensure operational readiness as required. Performs administrative, managing, monitoring, and operational support tasks in virtualized environments, including correcting critical storage issues, building recovery processes, and assessing hardware for failures and performance bottlenecks. Supports Linux OS and Windows (Azure) platforms. Responsible for vSAN environment and knowledge of enterprise storage (AWS, Azure, etc.). Develops security, backup, and redundancy strategies. Applies knowledge of scripting languages for implementation for automation, such as automated provisioning storage with Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and participating in the design of information and operational support systems. Provides third-level support; performs operational support as required and systems maintenance in accordance with solutions standard methodologies and Change Management policies. Executes the process around disaster recovery and other IT operations. Provides technical expertise and improves solutions and resource utilization based on industry standards methodologies. Delivers progress reports and presentations ensuring that management is aware of the current status, progress, and future needs; design, implementation, and ongoing support of on-premise and cloud Infrastructure. Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) for all VMware environments; creates and maintains an on-premise cloud, software defined data center infrastructure for both bare-metal and virtual machines with the appropriate SAN, network, or local storage configurations. Responsible for managing end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with University process. Other related duties as assigned.


Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field. Qualifying technical training and applied experience may be substituted for required education, on a year-for-year basis. Two to four years of full-time, progressively field-related experience. 

Ability to evaluate existing and proposed systems and recommend upgrades and/or modifications. Knowledge of applications programming techniques and procedures. Knowledge of system management and security/control procedure, database design, structure development, features, operations, programming, and data access principles. Knowledge of data communication network architecture, configuration, protocols, and interfaces. Knowledge of operating systems and storage capacity, including the ability to perform capacity planning. Ability to identify and implement critical maintenance fixes and to isolate and correct malfunctions, including interface problems. Ability to develop and execute disaster recovery plans, establish data security standards and procedures, and ability to tune database systems, and maintain database software. Will need to work outside of normal work hours to support maintenance and troubleshooting. Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.

Hiring Salary: $6,667 - $8,334 per month
