RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: 

Works closely with the Senior Director of Housing & Residential Education (SDHRE) and Student Conduct Administrator (SCA) to support the implementation of CSU Channel Islands’ (CSUCI) student conduct program, primarily within student housing. Conducts investigations of alleged violations of the Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations (Student Conduct Code) and Housing & Residential Education (HRE) Community Living Standards (CLS) in compliance with CSU Executive Order 1098, imposes educational and administrative sanctions ranging from written warning to disciplinary probation as appropriate, and may represent the University for assigned cases that result in formal hearings in consultation with the SCA. Assigns administrative housing outcomes ranging from warning to probation in consultation with the SCA and SDHRE as appropriate. Maintains compliance with relevant CSU Executive Orders, FERPA, Title IX, Clery and other state, local and federal laws. Reviews student conduct reports submitted, provides ongoing maintenance of student records, and assists with management of the electronic student conduct database (Maxient). Completes student conduct investigations for academic and/or non-residential cases, as needed. Researches best practices and model student conduct programs, practices, assessment, and measurement tools at comparable institutions. Reviews and provides feedback to the administration of the CLS and other University policies. Assists with day-to-day operations including coordinating student hearings, preparing student disciplinary files, receiving and documenting student issues/complaints, and answering and responding to phone calls and emails to the student conduct email account. Provides engaging and creative educational presentations, trainings, and programs related to student conduct, academic integrity, and housing misconduct to various campus and community partners including students, staff, and faculty. Provides individual follow-up to students who have not completed assigned educational sanctions. Assists in the development and implementation of educational sanctions. Assists the SCA and SDHRE with implementing aims, objectives, outcomes, ongoing assessment, and data analysis for the student conduct program in the Dean of Students (DOS) office and HRE. Communicates and provides consultative services to students, staff, faculty, parents, and advisors pertaining to student behaviors in written and verbal form. Provides support to the SCA and SDHRE regarding required Clery Reporting. Provides the SCA and SDHRE data analytics and reports using the student conduct database and other relevant data points. Administers the HRE alcohol education program including oversight and implementation of HRE’s alcohol privilege request process in consultation with the SDHRE. Coordinates and assists with the facilitation of programs and events in support of the DOS office and HRE including, but not limited to, alcohol and cannabis workshops, HRE outreach, and other educational outreach initiatives. Contributes to and assists with managing the DOS office social media accounts and other outreach endeavors. Participates in standing student conduct meetings with the SCA, SDHRE, and other staff as appropriate. Represents the program on Division and University committees as needed. Works closely with staff in Residential Education, Student Life & Support Programs, the Division of Student Affairs, as well as campus faculty and staff. Carries out and supports special projects as a member of the DOS office and HRE. May provide support for compliance with COVID-19 policy or safety requirements and Campus Access, Retention & Equity (CARE) on an as needed basis. Performs additional related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in counseling, education, social science, law, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

Experience: At least two years of professional higher education experience; experience in student conduct or responding to student behavioral concerns preferred. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.

Other Knowledge/Skills: General understanding of the current trends and issues impacting student populations and higher education. Understanding of student development in the conduct process and a commitment to student advocacy. Working knowledge of the basic principles of student development theory and individual and group behavior and techniques and methods of interviewing and educational programming. Demonstrated knowledge of communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and resolve multi-dimensional matters in response to students who are at risk and/or in crisis. Demonstrated ability to analyze complex situations, exercise good judgment, maintain confidentiality, identify solutions, and consistently apply policies, procedures, and laws. Ability to form and maintain effective collaborative relationships with colleagues across campus as well as students. Thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to gather and analyze data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations; participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews, make oral presentations; clearly express ideas; write clear and concise reports; utilize word processing and data programs, work effectively under pressure, compete assignments in a timely manner, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and faculty; and work in a multi­cultural environment. Ability to meet the needs of a multicultural, multisexed, and multi-aged student body group. Experience in working with computerized student information systems, databases, and other computer software desirable. Ability to organize and set priorities; quickly learn and apply the goals and objectives of the program, and the policies and regulations of all undergraduate programs. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of work and to interact with and be sensitive to a diverse clientele.

The person holding this position is considered a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Campus Security Act and must provide reports regarding Clery crimes about which they become aware to the designated campus authority. 

Must be available to work 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however, flexibility with respect to work schedule is necessary as this position will require the occasional evening or weekend service with advance notice, as required. Punctuality and regular attendance is mandatory. Occasional travel may also be required, with advance notice, as required. 

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083, revised July 21, 2017, as a condition of employment.

Hiring Range: $4,610 to $5,025 per month
