The Assistant/Associate Professor will primarily teach undergraduate and graduate classes in the Department of Kinesiology. The primary areas of teaching responsibility will be related to exercise physiology, clinical exercise physiology, and nutrition for active individuals. Primary teaching responsibilities and specific assignments will depend upon Department needs and priorities. Courses taught by this faculty member may contain students from any of the department’s majors/options. The faculty member will also engage in scholarly activity, seek external funding, serve on committees at all levels of faculty governance, provide academic advising to students, chair and serve on thesis committees, and maintain collaborative relationships within and outside the Department, including community outreach. New hires have reduced advising responsibilities and teaching loads for their first two academic years. After that, faculty members can expect a 12-unit teaching load per semester with opportunities to apply for reassignment or release time.
The Department of Kinesiology is in the College of Health and Human Services at California State University, Fresno. The Department is one of the largest on campus and has approximately 1,100 undergraduate students pursuing Bachelor’s degrees in Kinesiology.
The Department of Kinesiology houses two undergraduate majors - Exercise Science and Kinesiology which has options in Physical Education as well as Sport Administration. In addition, the Department has approximately 60 graduate students pursuing Master’s degrees in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Sport and Performance Psychology, and Sport Administration. The faculty have been honored with numerous awards and recognitions in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service, come from diverse backgrounds, are student-oriented, and are committed to maintaining a collegial working environment. Faculty have received both assigned time and funding through Chancellor, Provost, and College Awards.
Faculty initiatives are broad and collaborative with faculty from across the University (CHHS Faculty Research Profiles). Faculty scholarly activities and faculty-led student projects have won numerous awards over the last several years. The department has supported faculty in their efforts to expand its state-of-the-art equipment and lab space (Kines Labs Webpage) to enhance both teaching and research in exercise science.

Qualifications:
Required Education
- An earned doctorate from an accredited institution is required.
- Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (August 1, 2025).
Required Experience:
- College-level teaching experience in academic areas directly related to Kinesiology with an emphasis on exercise physiology and/or sport nutrition.
- Experience working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Required Teaching Qualifications:
- A minimum of one year of college teaching experience directly related to one or more of the following areas in Kinesiology:
- Exercise Physiology
- The successful candidate must also be able to teach in one or more of the following areas:
- Clinical Exercise Physiology
- Sports Nutrition
- Health Promotion and Wellness
- Research Methods
- Statistics
*Specific instructional assignments will depend upon Department needs and priorities.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Two or more years of full-time teaching at the college or university level in an area directly related to Kinesiology and the job description.
- Teaching experience at the graduate level.
- Experience working in the areas of clinical exercise physiology and/or sports nutrition.
- Appropriate professional certifications and/or licenses. Examples include:
- Clinical Exercise Physiology Certification from the American College of Sports Medicine, Certification from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, and/or other appropriate certification or license in the area of clinical exercise physiology.
- Appropriate certification, or licensure, or record of adequate continuing education in the area of nutrition or sports nutrition.
- Experience in research and scholarly activities.
- Evidence of seeking and/or acquiring external funding.

Commensurate with qualifications and experience the anticipated hiring range is $6250-$6550 per month for Assistant Professor (12 monthly payments per academic year).
