RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: 

Lead Work & Supervision:

Provides leadership for the day-to-day operations of the Latinx Cultural Center and supports the development of a welcoming, inclusive, and identity-affirming environment for students. Oversees and coordinates student staff, including hiring, training, supervision, and ongoing professional development. Facilitates student leadership development opportunities and fosters a strong sense of community among students utilizing the center.

Serves as a primary point of contact for Latinx student engagement and success initiatives, meeting regularly with individual students and student organizations to provide mentorship, guidance, and academic and wellbeing support. Assesses student needs and provides referrals and fosters partnerships with appropriate campus resources.

Participates as an active member of the Cultural Centers team, contributing to the coordination and implementation of shared initiatives, programs, and campus-wide events. Supports an integrated approach to cultural center operations that enhances collaboration and maximizes student impact.

Program Development, Oversight, & Assessment:

Designs, implements and evaluates culturally responsive programs and services that promote student engagement, identity development, and academic success. Develops initiatives that support retention, belonging, and holistic student development, particularly for Latinx and historically underserved students.

Establishes measurable student learning and engagement outcomes and conducts ongoing program assessments to evaluate effectiveness and inform continuous improvement. Produces semester and annual reports that assess program impact on student engagement, retention, and cultural center effectiveness. Utilizes data-informed practices and institutional metrics to assess student engagement, evaluate program effectiveness, and inform continuous improvement aligned with student success outcomes and strategic goals.

Collaborates with campus partners to develop co-curricular programming that addresses issues of equity, identity, and social justice. Plans and executes programs that are responsive to student needs and aligned with institution priorities related to student success and HSI servingness. Leads programming initiatives out of the cultural center that highlight and promote HSI Week and Latinx Heritage Month.

Campus Partnerships and Outreach Support:

Leads efforts to build and sustain partnerships with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Enrollment Management, and community organizations to support integrated and holistic student success. Develops opportunities for student-faculty engagement, mentorship, and collaboration across campus.

Serves as a campus resource on culturally responsive practice, equity, and Latinx student success. Represents the Latinx Cultural Center on university committees and participates in institutional initiatives that advance student success, inclusion, and belonging.

Collaborates with Cultural Center Coordinators to develop and implement integrated programming and shared initiatives that reflect the intersectional identities of CSUCI students. Supports a coordinated cultural center model that enhances cross-center collaboration, resource sharing, and institutional effectiveness.

Represents the Latinx Cultural Center and the Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management on university committees, workgroups, and institutional initiatives related to student success, equity, belonging, and campus climate. Participates in local, regional, and national professional organizations and conferences to remain current on emerging trends, research, and best practices related to Latinx student success, culturally responsive programming, and student engagement. Contributes to the broader field through presentations, collaborations, and professional development activities that strengthen institutional effectiveness and support continuous improvement.

Budget Oversight & Student Engagement:

Assists in tracking and monitoring Latinx Cultural Center budget and program expenditures. Maintains working relationships with student organizations and clubs that align with the Center’s mission. Supports fiscal planning related to programming and student engagement initiatives.

Performs other duties as assigned, consistent with the classification, to support the mission, goals, and operational needs of the Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management.

Flexibility is required for evening and weekend programs as needed. Occasional travel may be required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Psychology, Communication, Ethnic Studies, Social Work, Education, Student Affairs, Higher Education, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:

At least three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in student services or a related field. Experience supporting the success, engagement, and retention of Latinx and/or historically underserved student populations is preferred. A master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Demonstrated understanding of the experiences, challenges, and strengths of Latinx, first-generation, and historically underserved college student populations. Ability to apply student development theory, cultural identity development frameworks, and best practices in supporting student engagement, belonging, and retention.

Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and assess culturally responsive programs and services that support student success and promote inclusive excellence. Experience using data-informed practices to evaluate program effectiveness, assess student engagement, and inform continuous improvement aligned with institutional priorities. 

Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to effectively engage and support a diverse student population. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships across campus divisions, including Academic Affairs, Student Affairs & Enrollment Management , and community partners.

Ability to analyze complex student issues, exercise sound judgment, and provide appropriate guidance, referrals, and support in sensitive and high-impact situations. Knowledge of campus resources and ability to navigate institutional systems to support student success.

Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate programs and events, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. General knowledge of the principles, practices, and trends within the Student Affairs field, including retention strategies, co-curricular programming, and culturally responsive student support services.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Demonstrated experience developing and implementing programs that support Latinx student success, identity development, and engagement within a higher education setting. Experience working within a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) or with initiatives focused on advancing servingness, equity, and student success for historically underserved populations. Experience utilizing assessment tools, data analytics, or institutional metrics to evaluate program effectiveness and inform decision-making. Experience supervising, training, and mentoring student staff or paraprofessionals in a higher education environment. Demonstrated ability to build and sustain partnerships with campus departments, faculty, and community organizations to support holistic student success. Experience facilitating trainings, workshops, or presentations related to student success, equity, inclusion, or culturally responsive practice preferred. Bilingual or multilingual skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in Spanish strongly preferred.
